Alternative Ways to Dispose of Your Medications
Deterra Drug Deactivation System

The Deterra® System is a scientifically proven product, powered by patented MAT12® Molecular Adsorption Technology. In a simple 3-step process, a user can deactivate drugs, thereby preventing drug misuse and protecting the environment.
We strongly encourage everyone to dispose of unused, unwanted and or expired medication at a permanent prescription drop box location, but if you are unable to do that, this is the best alternative!
For your free Deterra pouch contact us today at (609) 272-0101 or by emailing jtacnj@atlprev.org.
Syringe and Needle Disposal
Syringes, needles and sharps are used to manage various medical conditions individuals and/or their pets may have. Used sharps should immediately be disposed of properly, in a puncture resistant plastic container, often available through pharmacies, medical supply companies, health care providers, etc. A heavy duty plastic household container, such as a laundry detergent container can also be used, as an alternative.
Current New Jersey laws prohibit citizens from disposing of sharps intact or as a whole in the regular trash. Used sharps of any kind are dangerous to not only people and pets, but also the environment. The following are the locations in Atlantic County that sharps can be taken to for proper disposal:
- AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center- City Division, Atlantic City (609) 572-8300
- AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center- Mainland Division, Galloway Twp. (609) 652-3453
- Shore Medical Center- Environmental Services, Somers Point (609) 653-3612
- AtlantiCare Health Park, Hammonton (609) 704-3366
