Stand Up and Rebel

Stand Up and REBEL

Who We Are

Stand Up an REBEL (SUAR) is comprised of Atlantic County youth interested in learning about and addressing issues related to underage drinking, tobacco/nicotine, marijuana, and other drugs.  The SUAR County Group is available to all Atlantic County high school students regardless of whether or not their school has a SUAR chapter.  SUAR meets once a month and dinner is always provided at these meetings.

SUAR’s Focus

The focus of SUAR is to empower teens to make healthy choices through education, skills building, and community activities.  This will, in turn, positively impact their peers, schools and communities which they live.

Community Service Hours

Plentiful community service hours are available for ALL SUAR members to earn!  These hours can be used for National Honor Society, college applications and job applications.

What We Do

SUAR youth participate in various community activities.  These include:

  • Project Graduation: SUAR members have the opportunity to volunteer with decorating, giving out food, prizes or other activities for an all-night celebration of graduating seniors.
  • Great American Smokeout: The Great American Smokeout is an annual intervention event held on the third Thursday in November by the American Cancer Society that encourages users of tobacco/nicotine to quit for a day.  SUAR members can create posters or social media campaigns to share with their peers and school to encourage people to quit smoking or vaping.
  • Take Down Tobacco Day: Take Down Tobacco Day is a national day of action that empowers people to stand up and speak out against the tobacco industry.  Every March, hundreds of communities across the country hold events and rally together to Take Down Tobacco.
  • Sticker Shock Campaigns: Sticker Shock is a campaign to provide information to purchasers of alcohol about the legal consequences of providing alcohol to underage youth.  Held in local participating liquor retailers, members use bright stickers to discourage adults from providing youth with alcohol.
  • Beach Cleanups: Being that Atlantic County is a Shore Community, beach cleanups are a feature for SUAR youth.  Youth gather together to clean up cigarette butts and vape pods from the beach, followed by a picnic on the beach.
  • Mentoring/Reading:  Some SUAR chapters coordinate reading activities in schools in their districts with younger students.  These books raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco.
  • And much more!  SUAR members plan, create, and execute their own thoughts and ideas with the support of the SUAR Youth Coordinator.
