Rural Community Prevention Project (PFS)
Atlantic County is a large and diverse county in the southern part of New Jersey where population vastly increases in the summer months as visitors and tourists are welcomed. It’s a unique challenge the community faces annually and programs and services tend to target the shore communities. Through an extensive needs assessment, it was determined that the focus of this project is the rural communities of western Atlantic County, encompassing about 272 square miles. The programs and activities for the PFS project are implemented to target the communities (individuals and their families) of Hammonton, Buena Borough, Buena Vista Township, Mullica Township, Township of Hamilton, and Egg Harbor City.
Examples of Programs and Projects:
- Social media campaigns that address misinformation about tobacco and vaping/e-cigarette products and nicotine, with specific emphasis on target communities.
- Don’t Get Vaped In prevention presentation in target schools.
- Tobacco Retail Assessments and Education in target communities.
- Provide merchant education on the regulations and policies.
- Community outreach events to inform community members about the availability of quit resources.
