Stigma Free Atlantic Collaborative

The Stigma Free Atlantic Collaborative is a countywide initiative that aims to reduce the negative beliefs associated with mental health and substance use disorders. The Collaborative’s mission is to create a culture where residents feel supported by their community and feel free to seek treatment for these disorders without fear of being outcast.
2025 Stigma Free Networking Breakfast
Atlantic County Stigma Free Champion
The Stigma Free Atlantic Collaborative is looking for stigma-free champions in our community. Do you know an individual, group, or organization that has gone above and beyond in promoting stigma free messages, activities and events? If you know someone who is making a meaningful difference and leading efforts to break down barriers and promote acceptance, we want to hear from you!
Every year, the Collaborative accepts nominations for our annual awards and networking breakfast, usually held in May. This event is designed to recognize and celebrate individuals and organizations that promote the stigma-free mission.
To nominate an individual or group, email jtacnj@atlprev.org for more information and to receive a nomination form.
What is Stigma?
Stigma is a negative perception or stereotype which results from the judgement of others. When an individual is labeled by their illness, they can experience prejudice. It often brings feelings of shame, embarrassment, distress, hopelessness and reluctance to seek or accept help. As a result, it is one of the primary reasons individuals do not seek help.
Tool Kits
These toolkits provide a community guide with information that highlights the key components of a Stigma Free Campaign. This user-friendly resource is available to help implement projects and programs that would reduce the negative impact of stigma for those with mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders.
How can you join the effort?
By joining the Stigma-Free Atlantic Collaborative, you will help raise awareness of the prevalence of mental health and substance use disorders in our community. You can help promote acceptance and actively challenge stereotypes. Through powerful words and actions, help shift the social and systemic barriers for those living with these disorders and encourage empathy and understanding.
Individuals, companies, organizations and others can take the pledge to join the Collaborative.
